Sand tires or no sand tires?

Hey all i just wanted to ask some opinions. I am planning on going out to silver lake some time this spring but i don't have any sand tires. right now i have basically brand new itp hole shots. my question is would it be worth buying a set of sand tires? i don't know how often i will be going out to the dunes, but that all will depend on how much fun i have when i go as well as how much money i spend while i'm there. thanx ahead for ur opinons guys.

Buy a good used set of sand paddles...they do make a difference. Now, you can ride just fine without paddles, just need to keep your speed up. A good set of Paddles will let you "lug" around more in the sand.

I have never been in the sand with knobbies, but I see people with them at silver lake all the time. You will have no problem getting around and making it up any of the hills. I just have heard it is funner with paddles though. just keep an eye out on craigslist you should be able to pick up a used set for around $100 -150$.

I just saw you are from Ludington. You're really close to there, I would be going at least once a month if I lived that close. Hell you could even make a trip during the week after work.

I run front ribbed tires, they offer more flotation over the sand, they make steering a bit easier. I run v shaped paddles in the rear, they are a little easier to slide in the sand. Straight cup tires like haulers hook up better, but are more suited for hill shotting or going in a straight line. I would highly recommend sand tires, they do hook up much better than standard tires, and man, they throw a mean roost!
