I'm really stumped on whay my R dont start somtimes

I had a complete new motor built with a 330. Put on a 38mm pwk. initialy used the original cdi and a rm stator coil. It started and run, it was hard to start yet. Somtimes it would kick back. (with a ricks cdi it always kicks back) then I replace the cdi and coil with new Honda ones and it never kick back but it seemd to run fine once it started. Ill get on it kick it 20 times and theres nothing then I'll catch my breath kick it again and bang starts up and idles perfect. I got spark if I kick it 3-4 times real fast. Its like theres a fuel problem. I have good fuel flow, the carb was removed today cleaned then I took the piece bolted on in the bowl and cracked it when I put it back together. I dont matter if I hold it at idle , 1/8,1/4,1/2, or full. Im stumped. Its was a new carb from esr a year ago. Its had mabey 10 gallons of fuel thru it.

Sounds electrical to me. Check your grounds and wiring harness, but with your cracked carb part it's hard to really say. Cracked carb or not, you should be getting consistent spark. I had this problem with my 85 cr500. I knew it wasn't the carb though. Put a 95 cr250 ignition on it and problem solved. It sucks trying to figure out 2 problems at once. Fix one then the other. Btw you should get a spark for every kick you do provided you are kicking it hard enough. I never had any luck with non oem electronics. One common cause of kick backs is having your timing to far advanced, but that shouldn't be the case with oem stuff.

Have you played with different pilot jets or your mixture screw? Is it only on cold sarts, or hot starts too?

I got another harness to try here. I rode it yesterday and it seemed to bog I did a couple donuts in 2 nd and it boged and then wouldnt rev up off idle at all. Its got a fmf pipe and silencer, 38mm pwk, trx 9 porting pump gas dome new gas stock full air box and 32-1 maxima 927 oil. it has a 52 slow and a 192 main for break in it was 40 deg here but its done the same thing when its 20 deg. Im not the increadable hulk as far as strength but I kicked it over continusly 3/4 kick as fast as I can with the plug out. It dont spark every time but every 3-4 x in 10 kicks. with all the old cdi and coil the spark was so small I couldn't hardly see it now it bright. I had it idling poked around the wires all over and it didnt change anything. When I had spark I put the tank back on then no start so I pulled out the plug and it had spark plus the plug was dry. With the new cdi and coil it does not kick back ever.

I have seen this happen time and time again not only on this board but also with local guys. Aftermarket stators are made by the devil. Add rm to the list of other greats like ricky stator. The spark is erratic maybe every 10 kicks. I have seen one spark after the kick. You should just start over with all oem electrical.

You might try using a smaller gapped plug with the oem ignition and also try a a br8eg plug along with the other wiring harness. I am sure it's electrical. Also don't be afraid to put your finger on the plug instead of just grounding it to the cylinder. It only hurts a little bit if any depending on your own pain tolerance. I once saw a buddy having spark plug cap problems grab his while running and it shocked the h-ll out of him. Freaking funny as sh-t. I wouldn't advise that. Once when I was young(about 11) I was having loose chain issues on my bicycle and it was rubbing the tire. I reached down and pulled the chain away from the tire and then stupidly pedaled some and got my fingertip stuck in the front sprocket and chain and almost had to pedal it on around(coaster brake, no freewheel) while riding down the street without crashing too. You live and learn, sometimes the hard way.
