Water Pump Part Question

My first clutch cover had this part in the water pump, and I could not pound it out to put it in my new clutch cover. I am in the process of going through the whole motor, and I cant figure out what this part is for! So, my question is, do I even need it? This part does not show up on any OEM part diagrams.

Heres a pic I found off of ebay. Nice close up of the part I do not have. Any help would be appreciated!

This is what is left of the Mechanical Seal (MS)...The MS is a complete unit imcluding a spring and rubber seal and ceramic washer for the impeller. You need to remove the WP Bearing and press the MS out from the opposite side you have shown in the picture.

So you are saying that if I order #3 in the picture below, the piece I have shown in the picture above will be included?

I replace the MS in every cover I polish. They are close to $30. There is no way to tell if they are good or not, as far as I know. If you could reuse them I have about 20 of them for you. LOL!!!

As Pumashine knows; re-using the MS is asking for a leak...replace with the MS with a new OEM and not the cheap versions found on eBay.
