Is porting my motor worth it?

I got a esr 310 now that has the 9 porting. Looking to get a little more out of the motor. The reason why I ask is I could just sell this cylinder and go bigger or have a good builder port the motor for $2-300 bucks and do all they need to do. Just looking for some thoughts of people who have done some port work. I am not looking to go drag port just want it to pull a little harder. Any thoughts?

Porting is truly an art. I dont mean to sound negative but ive seen Several esr cylinders make more hp when some else ports them. I think most people are happy when they get their new setup and rightfully so but they couldve had more. Anyone can make a sleeve match a cylinder but understanding exhaust port timing is a whole different animal. I say heck yes send that cylinder to a reputabke mechanic and get that thing to sing. I guess it explains why esr only charges ~$100 for porting (light joke)

Exactly what deadly said. Porting is an art I'v got a stock cylinder that Mike Hunt (HUNT's CYCLE) ported & one that Neil Pritchard (C-Leigh Racing) did. Both run like pretty amazing. I just rode Mike's personal 250R yesterday (which happens to be for sale). He did a pretty extensive port job on it with a stock cylinder and wow. I've never riding an R that had some much usable torque. I'm gonna get him to do another one just like the one thats on his quad.

I just keep kicking the idea around of going bigger or do a nice port. Some things I have read said that a well ported 310 can outrun a 330 that is not fully ported. Kind of interesting if you think about it.

That would be great. I will be tearing into the motor in the next week or so and deciding from there. Thanks

JDH250r, what exactly did you decide to go with as far as porting and motor work? I currently have the 9 port and 9 pipe.

Carlos ported (XC) and set up my ESR 310 to run on race gas (210lbs compression). I can't say enough about how it runs. I've got a channel set up on youtube (quadrider250450) with a lot of go pro vids of my 310. I've also got a 450r with some vids on there, but the 310 will walk away from the 450 now. I love the 310 kit.
