I kind of wanted the quasi-stock look as well and I can relate.

What I did was painted my ESR 350 cylinder black and left my crankcases black. Now, I realize the head and shape of the cylinder is a dead give away to those who are familiar with the 250r. But let's face it, most of your modern 450 riders wouldn't know a 250r Big Bore if it fell out of the sky, landed on their head and started to wiggle!

I understand my reply doesn't really pertain to your initial question, but I thought I might offer you a different angle on it.

Here's a couple of pics of my set up. I thought it came out well for just me and some good brush on paint...
Isn't that the truth... I was riding my polished/chrome 86 ESR330 in the dunes last trip and had a guy flag me down telling me how he hadn't seen a 100% stock 250R in the dunes in 20 years. I just shook his hand, listened to his stories and then told him he still hadn't seen a 100% stock 250R. You'd think the triple rate shocks, big bore cylinder and chrome exhaust would have been clues.

Yup Nico, most don't know what a 250R looks like in stock trim. Ride-Red 350r has it nailed; paint the cylinder black, matched to the cases, and most will think it is a stock 250R. Plus; folks are impressed just to see a +25 year old quad run them down, the legend of the 250R haunts them 4 pokes...

My buddy and i were tuning our Pumas at our local sand spot, some joker on a yfz450 asked me what is that yall running Blasters? LOL. I cracked up laughing, he then said those big expansion chambers on those pipes are they necessary? I asked him if he knew who Matt Shearer was he said uh no LOL. I think the key is to keep it looking stock, no chrome or anodized parts everywhere. Nobody will tell the difference in cylinders unless they are enthusiasts like us. At the end of the day it's run what ya brung anyway, so big bore and stroke it and paint it all black or gray LOL. Nobody tells the truth when it comes to what they have done anyway.
